Il libro dei primati/The Book of Primates

The bilingual Italian-English manuscript Il libro dei primati / The Book of Primates combines prose and poetry to revisit/reimagine the folkloric traditions of two American states where the author spent many years: the state of Maine and that of New York. In his reworking/recreating of these traditions, he looked at traditional poems, ballads, tales, legends, and revisited them through contemporary experimental language and contents. The result is a series of new texts, each the result of a contamination between the original texts and the author’s own re-imagining them, in light of modern settings and contents. This work is very far from being just a "re-writing" of traditional materials. Rather, it is an approach in which he re-generates the old tradition.

In his most recent volume of poetry, Mario Moroni traces a sort of journal throughout the years, as he considers this poetic testimony the only possibility of permanence, and, ultimately, as guarantee of continuing to exist.

Brevi storie dell’ospite assente (Short Stories of the Absent Guest).

This volume represents Moroni's experiment to generate a form of poetic prose, where individual lives, places, and circumstances are filtered through a visionary gaze that makes them collide, that moves them suddenly, displacing them in order to put them back together in a different dimension.

In this volume Moroni makes an attempt to call into question the categories of space and time from within, by problematizing them, deconstructing them, and ultimately reconstructing them in a possible relationship.

Tutto questo documents Moroni's coherent and continuous poetic research, based on a vital sense of necessity: to offer a possible representation of the world, beginning with the minimal grammar of verbal actions, of perceptive fragments on which to articulate a bare syntax, close to the acts of seeing and listening.

Paesaggi oltre (Landscapes Beyond)

In this volume that concludes his poetic research of the 1980s, Moroni challenges, through experimental verbal sequences, traditional modes of poetic representations of space and landscape. He subjects the descriptive language that designates places and things to a series of displacements at the level of logic, syntax, and semantics.

In his third volume of poetry, Moroni continues the research of new possibilities of poetic expression, following his initial interest for the Italian and international experimental poetry of the 1960s and 70s.

He offers a poetic imagery that, on the one hand, aims to represent the world, and on the other describes how that very world is constituted by words, rhythm, and pauses.

I racconti (The Tales)

Following his juvenile volume Dall'assoluta attualita, in I racconti Moroni's poetry transitions from the absolute experimentation of his first volume to a new poetic practice, whose foundation consists in the possibility that the world may be said and read.

Dall'assoluta attualità (From Absolute Topicality)

This is Mario Moroni's first volume of poetry. His work, influenced by the Avant Garde movements of the 1960s and 70s, is constituted by an intense experimentation within the phonetic and syntactic structures of language.
